Redirect and De-escalate Conflict to Get to Dialogue

Conflict is everywhere, and it’s unavoidable. For many of us, it can be hard to admit that we’re not as good at effectively resolving conflict as we’d like to be. However, we have different tools at our disposal that help us navigate the waters of conflict – we just must figure out how to use them. Learn to identify the conditions that create conflict, the specific causes that trigger it, and the techniques for resolving conflict.

Conflict takes many forms, including the agitated employee or manager who must be redirected from the situation, helped to deescalate their anger, and finally gotten into a dialogue about how to solve the problem. In this workshop, we’ll address the full range of conflicts from the critical to the chronic and what to do about each of them to reach understanding – even if agreement isn’t possible.

Managing Conflict in the Workplace

Conflict erupts in all our lives — both professionally and personally. Despite its frequency and regularity, few have been taught conflict de-escalation and resolution skills. Professionals can learn to address conflict by identifying the conditions that create conflict, the causes that trigger it, and the techniques for resolving conflict. Success under conditions of high stress, risk, ambiguity, and complexity require effective conflict resolution skills. While it is impossible to resolve all conflict without the collaboration of the entire team, someone must lead these efforts.

In this workshop, we’ll teach you the essential skills necessary to de-escalate conflict and then resolve it through instruction and exercises that we’ll all complete.

Designing Departmental Sites

You may have control of the home page. You may be responsible for helping departments get their sites created. However, ultimately, they’ve got to update it themselves. You don’t have time to create content for every department. You can, however, help them to be successful by helping them understand how to think from the perspective of their internal users and what they need. In this session, you’ll learn how to help departments understand the separation between their needs and others needs. You’ll learn how to help departments build a site that focuses on their internal consumers. Take these materials back home and use them to engage your departments in creating their own place on the intranet that serves their needs.
